US BioRemediation Inc.
US BioRemediation, Inc. (USBRI) was founded in June, 2009 to develop commercial products based on the properties of a unique metal-binding acidophile microbe isolated from the Berkeley Pit Superfund site in Butte, Montana. This organism can rapidly extract toxic metals from highly acidic solutions, potentially reducing the cost of follow-on remediation steps, and enabling the recovery and recycling of removed metals.
The Company is currently characterizing microbial growth parameters and determining the phenotypic properties of licensed species. Future work will include isolation, characterization, and optimization of the macromolecules which bind and sequester selected metals. Scaled commercial plans for the organism include in situ or ex situ remediation at selected beta mine sites, waste retention ponds, and discarded tailings piles.
